The 3DS handheld has managed to continue its long-term reign at the top of the Japanese hardware chart and has managed to improve its overall numbers faster than all its main competitors, for the week that ended on August 17.

The Nintendo device has sold 51,794 units, which is more than the 41,045 of the previous seven-day period, while second-placed PlayStation Vita has moved from 18,428 to 22,316, according to data from Media Create quoted by NeoGAF.

The best-selling home console continues to be the Wii U and the overall sales of more than 18,000 are impressive for the platform, even though a higher level is required to compensate for low initial numbers.

The PlayStation 4 continues to disappoint, considering its next-gen nature, but the 6,913 units it has delivered to players are a solid improvement over the 5,470 of the previous week and put it above the older PS3.

Yo-kai Watch 2: Ganso / Honke is once again the leader of the video game chart, with weekly sales of 118,526 copies.

The rest of the top ten includes: Hyrule Warriors, Yoshi's New Island, Mario Kart 8, Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission 2, Monster Hunter Frontier G: Beginner's Package, Ultra Street Fighter IV, Taiko no Tatsujin: Don to Katsu no Jikuu Daibouken, Yo-kai Watch, and Senran Kagura 2: Crimson.
