Sony has confirmed that Sucker Punch, the developer of popular video games such as Sly Cooper and Infamous, has suffered a round of layoffs.

"SCEE can confirm a reduction in workforce has taken place at Sucker Punch Productions. Sucker Punch is appreciative of the tremendous work team members contributed to the inFamous and Sly Cooper series, and wishes them the best in their next endeavours," a spokesperson from Sony has stated to Eurogamer.

For the time being, the exact number of staff members without a job is unknown, but Sony's statement indicates that some of the long-term members of the team who worked on the studio's older projects, such as Sly Cooper, are among those affected by the decision.

The studio is currently involved in putting the finishing touches on Infamous: First Light, the standalone expansion for this year's PlayStation 4 exclusive hit action adventure video game Infamous: Second Son.

It's yet unknown whether the layoffs are simply the result of the team's work on Infamous coming to an end, or are part of a larger restructuring program at Sony.

Infamous: First Light is coming to the PlayStation 4 on August 26, via the PlayStation Store, and gamers who pre-order the game will gain access to a new DUP costume for the protagonist.
