A complex military strategy title with more units and mechanics

What we know: The teams at developer Eugen Systems and publisher Focus Home Entertainment announced the title late in 2013 and are planning to launch Wargame: Red Dragon at some point in the fall of this year on the PC.

The new military-focused strategy game is changing the focus of the action from Europe, which was featured in AirLand Battle, to South East Asia, with the single-player campaign set to chronicle “what if” scenarios based on some of the most important conflicts of the last 50 years.

Countries like China, North Korea, the Commonwealth and Vietnam will be available for selection and each of them will include a full line-up of units with accurate weapons and abilities.

Eugen Systems promises that the dynamic campaign system will be improved in order to create more interesting scenarios and that all battles will be influenced by new features, like amphibious assaults, naval unit use and better simulation of weapons systems.

Red Dragon will also keep the nations featured in AirLand Battle, although the studio says that it has no plans to add any more units to their rosters.

Why it matters: AirLand Battle was one of the games that I spent the most time on in 2013 and one of the few strategy titles that I had a lot of fun with while playing multiplayer.

This is because Eugen Systems has created a set of mechanics that rewards careful planning, solid executions and interesting tactical choices, without focusing on clicks per minute or on classic build orders.

Red Dragon promises to deliver the same type of experience, but with a larger scope, more units, interesting strategic choices and an even bigger focus on the multiplayer experience and massive battles.
