What we know: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is developer Mercury Steam’s sequel to the 2010 acclaimed action-adventure title Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

The game is scheduled for release on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on February 25 in North America, and on February 28 in Europe.

The sequel will have players take on the role of a weakened Dracula, and will have to fight in order to regain the legendary vampire’s powers in time to face the protagonist’s nemesis, Satan.

The key to regaining his powers lies in Dracula’s castle, but many parties are trying to prevent him from emerging victorious once again.

Why it matters: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow was very well received, Mercury Steam being lauded for its successful reboot, but the developers have acknowledged it also has many flaws.

Committing themselves to delivering a better experience this time around, they have decided to let players take control of Dracula, for the first time in the Castlevania series.

They have also mentioned that the gameplay will rely less on quick time events, and in an effort not to make the game as linear as its predecessor, they have created an open world environment, where players are free to explore and progress through the game in a more diverse fashion.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 will also feature a mobile 360 camera, instead of relying on the sequel’s fixed perspective.

The upcoming adventure game plans to conclude the story arc opened in the first iteration. Lords of Shadow revealed the origin of Dracula, and his connection with the legendary Belmont clan was thus uncovered, and in Lords of Shadow 2, players will experience thrilling new twists and the storyline’s epic finale.
