What we know:

South Park: The Stick of Truth is an upcoming game from Obsidian Entertainment and set to be published by THQ for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms later this year.

Unlike previous South Park games that only tried to use the cult TV show as a background for creating different types of experiences, The Stick of Truth wants to be a game that delivers a new adventure for the protagonists of the show, ranging from Stan, Kyle, Kenny, or Cartman.

The title will be a full-fledged role-playing game as Obsidian is keen on delivering a sprawling experience that puts players in the shoes of a new resident of the town of South Park.

The "New Kid" quickly befriends the main cast, but soon a huge catastrophe happens that sees the quaint little town invaded by all sorts of creatures, ranging from crab people to hippies and anything in between.

It's up to the player to help the main cast and become the savior of South Park by engaging in all sorts of battles and summoning help from different characters from the show.

Not a lot of other details are known for now as Obsidian has kept a tight lid on the game while THQ's troubled financial situation has prevented it from posting any new info on South Park: The Stick of Truth.

Why it matters:

South Park, even if it's getting a little old, is still a great TV show and it deserves a great adaptation. Obsidian, after creating all sorts of new entries in already-established franchises, like Fallout or Knights of the Old Republic, has proved that it knows how to handle a game, particularly an RPG.

Based on what we've seen up until now in the form of gameplay videos, The Stick of Truth is looking pretty good so let's hope all the THQ bankruptcy situation hasn't disturbed its development.

South Park: The Stick of Truth is out in the first half of 2013 for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.
