What we know:

After plenty of rumors and reports, Capcom confirmed the release of Resident Evil: Revelations on other platforms besides the 3DS, including the PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U.

The game already came out for Nintendo's handheld at the beginning of last year and impressed quite a lot of people with its high-quality action, even prompting many longtime fans to get a 3DS just to experience it.

Now, the Japanese company has overhauled the game in high definition, added all sorts of improvements, like enhanced lighting or better sound design, and is getting ready to debut it onto new platforms.

In case you forgot, Revelations aims at offering some insight into what happened between Resident Evil 4 and 5, with players taking control of iconic characters like Jill Valentine or Chris Redfield, as they explore all sorts of creepy locations, including a ship and a devastated city.

With a bigger emphasis on survival horror, the new title should certainly please fans that weren't that impressed with Resident Evil 6 last year.

Besides the remastering in high definition, Capcom also implemented improvements to special modes, like the Raid one, which saw the addition of new weapons, skills, plus the chance to play as Hunk and other characters.

Why it matters:

Resident Evil 6 wasn't the success Capcom had planned, even if it seemed like it was going to please all of the many fans of the franchise.

With Revelations, the Japanese company is practically forced to succeed if it hopes to keep the series relevant enough to make money once it appears on the next generation of consoles.

Resident Evil: Revelations is set to appear on May 21, in North America, and May 24, in Europe, for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U.
