What we know:

Metro: Last Light is the successor of Metro 2033, an atmospheric first-person shooter based on the famous book that tasks players with surviving in a post-apocalyptic version of Moscow by exploring its subway tunnels, fighting off mutants caused by the radiation of nuclear bombs, and trying to save humanity.

While in Metro 2033 players controlled a young character called Artyom, in Last Light they'll get to see a much more experienced version of the hero, but developer 4A Games has made it clear that he will still feel vulnerable when faced with the different situations included in the story.

Gameplay has also been improved, as quite a few new mechanics have been added, not to mention the addition of plenty of new monsters which will force the player to adopt new strategies if he hopes to make it out alive

Metro: Last Light will still emphasize survival and careful micromanagement of Artyom's resources, as he can choose to fire weaker bullets and risk his life or use the high-quality ones, which act as currency in the world of the game.

The game's engine has also been drastically improved and 4A has already shown the gorgeous visuals of the title by releasing a special gameplay video as well as plenty of screenshots.

Why it matters: Metro 2033 was definitely a novel experience and, while it did stumble when it came to several things and had a few sections that were downright annoying, it's still a pretty good game.

With Metro: Last Light, 4A is definitely showing that it can create a high-quality experience that has not only great visuals but also an intriguing story and impressive gameplay.

Hopefully, the whole THQ bankruptcy issue won't affect the game's final months of development and we'll get to see it in action soon enough.

Metro: Last Light is scheduled to appear in March of 2013 for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 platforms.
