Developer Gearbox Software announces that it plans to launch high-definition remakes for both the original Homeworld and its sequel in the coming months via digital distribution outlets on the PC.

The announcement was made during the company's PAX Australia panel, as reported by Polygon, and the team offered no information on what other changes might be made to the strategy games in departments other than graphics.

Gearbox surprised fans of Homeworld when it bought the intellectual property in April from the now defunct THQ for 1.35 million dollars (1 million Euro).

Gearbox said that it planned to make Homeworld available via the most important digital distribution platforms.

The first game in the series was introduced in 1999 and revolutionized the space strategy genre.

It's unclear whether Gearbox has plans to create a third Homeworld game in the coming years.
