Blizzard Entertainment has launched the open beta testing phase for its free-to-play MOBA-like brawler Heroes of the Storm.

The video game offers a simplified version of the classic multiplayer online battle arena gameplay of titles such as Dota 2 or League of Legends, by streamlining many of the systems formerly perceived as integral to the experience.

With no items and shared experience pools, the concepts of item builds and carries take a backseat to actual team coordination. Unique map objectives also add a new dimension to the game flow, being an essential part of winning games.

Coming with a wide range of beloved characters from Blizzard's highly popular franchises, Diablo, StarCraft, and WarCraft, the game feels instantly familiar to long-time gamers, and offers a less demanding experience for those intimidated by the complexity and steep learning curve of traditional MOBA titles.

And now that the game is in open beta, everyone can join the fray and try it out before its final launch on June 2.

The developer has also released a brand new trailer, meant to serve as an introduction to the core mechanics and principles of Heroes of the Storm. You can watch the video below, and you can get Heroes of the Storm for Windows or the Mac HotS client from Softpedia.
