David Cage, the leader of the Quantic Dream development team, says that Microsoft was originally interested in publishing Heavy Rain, but decided to drop the game because of its child kidnapping themes.

The title was picked up by Sony, which launched it exclusively on the PlayStation 3 and has built a solid relationship with the studio.

Polygon quotes the developer speaking during a BAFTA lecture, as saying that, “They didn’t want the scandal. Microsoft is a great company, I’m not complaining or criticizing. It was like, you know, we really can’t work together.”

Sony was interested in the project after Cage assured it that all mature themes would be treated seriously.

Heavy Rain has generated a lot of profit for Sony and Quantic Dream is at the moment getting ready to launch Beyond: Two Souls, another PlayStation 3 exclusive that will be available in early October.
