Another expansion might be introduced in the fall

Video game developer Blizzard says that more than 30 million players have so far engaged at least once with its card-based title Hearthstone, although it is not clear how many of them have stuck with the title for a longer period of time.

The information comes from the official Twitter account of the studio, but details are limited and it would be nice to find out more specifics, including how many gamers chose to use real world money to unlock content.

Hearthstone is a free-to-play experience, and it is entirely possible for a player to use the funds obtained from the game itself to get access to everything that Blizzard offers, apart from cosmetics.

Recently, the Blackrock Mountain expansion for the card game was launched, with five wings of battle offered, each finishing with a boss that uses a unique power to create some cool tactical puzzles.

Given the way Blizzard has supported the title so far, the next expansion will probably focus on the delivery of new cards and on balancing gameplay, and it will most likely arrive in the fall.

Part of the popularity of Hearthstone is also linked to the fact that it can be played on a wide variety of devices, including mobile phones.
