The development team at Blackbird Interactive is releasing the first trailer for its upcoming video game Hardware, which is set to mix real-time strategy mechanics with social game elements and a persistent world.

The studio is made up of a number of veterans who have previously worked at Relic on the Homeworld series, including Rob Cunningham, the art director, and Aaron Kambeitz, the lead artist.

In Hardware, players will get to command a number of vehicles as they try to control various locations on a mining planet.

The core mechanics are those of a traditional real-time strategy, with social elements used to increase the scale of the experience and allow gamers to interact with one another.

A beta will be launched for Hardware during 2013 and the entire experience will be offered on the PC, with aspects also available in a browser and on mobile devices.
