The owners of Halo: The Master Chief Collection on the Xbox One platform who played the title online before December 19 are now getting their free month of Xbox Live Gold membership as a token of appreciation from Microsoft and 343 Industries for their support.

One of the most anticipated Xbox One exclusives of last year – Halo: The Master Chief Collection – had a really bad launch period due to an array of issues with the multiplayer mode's matchmaking system, which generated lengthy waits and poor matches for those who wanted to relive the online experience of Halo 1, 2, 3, or 4.

Despite efforts from 343 Industries, the game was still plagued by problems in the weeks after that, as no matter how many updates or patches appeared, players were still reporting lengthy waits and plenty of problems when going online.

Microsoft and 343 pledged to make things right, and nowadays, when the matchmaking system is actually decent, the two companies have started rolling out their compensation, offering those who played the Master Chief Collection online before December 19 a free month of Xbox Live Gold membership.

Those eligible for this promotion should encounter a message on their Xbox One console and don't have to do anything, as Microsoft automatically applies the extra month to their existing subscription, via DualShockers.
