If Valve seems to have abandoned the Half-Life IP, you can always count on fans to be up to no good and mess around with the game universe.

This time, the evildoer is Polycount forums user Logithx, who has been working on modeling an iconic environment from Half-Life 2, City 17, using Unreal Development Kit, and the first screenshots he published look stunning.

He mentions that he plans to convert the project to Unreal Engine 4, and it's going to be a treat to see how the project looks using the latest incarnation of Epic's engine, because they already look great as is.

The creator notes that he still has tons of stuff to do, like all the exterior stuff, the interiors of the trains and some smaller models for props such as monitors.

“I'll probably quit this project in UDK and convert it all to the Unreal Engine 4. It's gonna take a while though. Please note that there's lots of placeholder models/textures/lighting and general derpyness in these pics. Can't wait to get going with UE4,” Logithx writes.

Seeing this and remembering all the fun Half-Life provided makes me wish the company would get the IP out of the GIMP box before it rots. In the meantime, we'll be waiting for the Unreal Engine 4 screenshots to roll out.
