The team at Sony and television giant HBO are announcing that the HBO GO application is now going live on the PlayStation 4 home console, allowing gamers to get access to all the big television shows the channel offers.

Phil Rosenberg, the senior vice president of business development at SCEA, explains in the official announcement that users will need to authenticate their device on the official site and they will then get access to series like True Detective, Silicon Valley or Game of Thrones.

HBO GO has been available on the rival Xbox One since the fall of last year and PS4 fans will be happy to get access to the same kind of content, even if it is a few months late.

Both Sony and Microsoft have been saying that apps for the most important entertainment content providers are important for their platforms because they give users something to do when they are not actively playing.

The PlayStation 4 is set to get its first originally produced series, Powers, in March, and if it is successful there are plans to deliver more similar content in the future.

Microsoft has recently closed down its entertainment division for the Xbox One.
