The creator of hit indie title Gunpoint, Tom Francis, has decided to debut a series of helpful videos detailing the use of GameMaker.

The tutorial series is meant to show absolute beginners how to create their own game using GameMaker, a robust and easy-to-use tool that breaks down the game development process into chunks that are much more approachable for newcomers, removing a lot of the technical prerequisites and focusing on the way different elements interact with each other, rather than getting into the nastier details.

The ease of use that makes GameMaker: Studio so great is also its biggest enemy, as the tool has earned a reputation for not being capable of powering higher-quality games, but now, YoYo studios' creation has helped many people realize their dreams.

Among the most famous video games crafted with GameMaker are Hotline Miami, Stealth Inc., Risk of Rain, Gods Will Be Watching, Hyper Light Drifter, and Tom Francis' Gunpoint, along with his upcoming project, Heat Signature.

Francis opened pre-orders for his 2D stealth hacking game back in May of 2013, a full week before the game's release, and by then he had already made enough money to focus on his game-making career.

Now he aims to give something back to the indie community, by starting this journey on his YouTube channel, meant to help people with no prior experience in game making or even programming grasp the basics of game design.
