Arc System Works has published the opening sequence for their upcoming brawler game Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign-, the fifth installment in the Guilty Gear series.

Guilty Gear takes place in a chaotic and mystical future, in which mankind has discovered an incredible energy source, and has imbued humans and other living creatures with it, creating living weapons known as Gears.

The upcoming fighting game will use cel-shaded graphics, in an attempt to replicate the classical feel of brawlers that use 2D sprites, while also allowing for more creative uses of the camera, and so far thirteen of the playable characters have been revealed.

The game's opening sequence features a bit of exposition, setting up the main plot, and then introduces the playable characters, showing the return of many favorites from the past, as well as the addition of a new fighter to the roster.

Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign- will reach Japanese arcades this spring, and will also be released on Sony's PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 systems sometime this year.
