Rockstar Games has just confirmed an official release date for Grand Theft Auto V of September 17, meaning the game won't make its initial spring 2013 launch period.

GTA V is eagerly awaited by millions upon millions of fans from all around the world and after years of silence on the game, Rockstar revealed last year that the game would come out for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in spring of 2013.

Now, however, the studio has just confirmed that Grand Theft Auto V will be released on September 17, missing its initial spring period by quite a few months.

The game will come out on the PS3 and Xbox 360 at that time and Rockstar has posted an apology on the Newswire about the actual delay.

"We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time. GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require."

As of yet, no other details are known about the upcoming game.
