14 DAY TRIAL // A study from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston shows that video gamers are as skilled as surgeons when it comes to completing robotic surgery simulations.
The gamer group included ten grade students who reported that they were playing two hours of games every day.
The professional group was made up of obstetrics and gynecology residents.
Their performance in robotic surgery sims was similar, which might have something to do with the gamification elements that are already built into the programs used to train surgeons.
Slate reports the study finds that the best performance from the gaming group was linked to those players who were mainly interested in shooters and in sports games.
Previous studies suggested that video games could boost a player’s hand to eye coordination.
