Gabe Newell, the leader of Valve, says that his company’s DOTA 2 Multiplayer Online Battle Arena title is so popular than when an update is published, gamers use about 3 percent of the capacity of worldwide network in order to download it.
PCGamesN quotes the executive as saying that, “When we do a new update for something like Dota 2, nearest we can tell, we’re generating 2-3% of the worldwide and LAN-based IP traffic.”
Newell was using the number in order to show how popular PC-based gaming still is despite the presence of current-gen consoles and declining overall sales of hardware.
DOTA 2 is a free-to-play title that competes with other MOBA titles like League of Legends and Guardians of Middle-earth.
Valve is set to offer more information on Steam-related hardware options in the coming weeks.
