14 DAY TRIAL // Grand Theft Auto 5 fans who are desperately waiting for a PC edition of the game are being targeted with a new email scam that promises an invitation into a beta for the game on PC but only ends up offering malware and other dangers.
GTA 5 was released worldwide on September 17 last year for the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles. Since then, many reports have claimed that a PC edition of the title will be confirmed to the world as soon as possible.
Even so, developer Rockstar Games has been silent about a possible PC adaptation of its open world game.
Nefarious individuals have started taking advantage of desperate PC owners and have devised a new email scam, according to TrendMicro.
The recipe is simple, as PC owners are receiving emails about an invitation into the GTA 5 PC beta stage. The actual message is filled with spelling errors and Slovakian text, not to mention links to shady websites including a phishing one.
What's worse, a special attachment contains an executable file that supposedly has the promo code for the GTA 5 PC beta. Instead, it's actually a malware file that opens up a backdoor vulnerability called BKDR_ANDROM.ATG.
As such, be careful what emails you open as there are plenty of nefarious individuals out there preying on those who aren't up to date with GTA 5 news.
