GAME UK sales saw a considerable spike over the holiday season, the retailer reporting a 90 percent increase in sales over a six-week period, ending January 4, as compared to last year's figures.

MCV reports that the retailer saw an 83 increase in sales, with the volume of online sales growing by an impressive 213 percent.

“This strong overall performance for our second peak trading period was driven by our ability to capitalize on the hugely successful launches of Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's PlayStation 4,” Chief Executive Martyn Gibbs commented.

“We now have one of the biggest reward card schemes in the UK and we have recruited significant numbers of new customers to the scheme over the period. This is providing us with a rich seam of customer insights with which to plan ahead with our supplier partners,” he further added on the matter.

He concluded by expressing his optimism regarding the future, riding on the strong momentum of the new generation of consoles, expecting to expand GAME's digital delivery and to see a significant increase in revenues from digital content in 2014.
