Owners of such consoles need to upgrade their storage if they want to play online

Rockstar Games and Sony have confirmed that owners of the 12GB PS3 models need to upgrade the hard drive inside the console in order to continue enjoying updates for Grand Theft Auto 5 and its GTA Online mode.

GTA 5 appeared almost one year ago and delivered a stunning experience on both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 consoles. Since then, developer Rockstar has been working on adapting the experience for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms, while also deploying lots of themed updates for the GTA Online multiplayer mode.

Now, it seems that the constant updates are going to cause problems for PS3 owners with small hard drives. Particularly, owners of the PS3 model with 12GB of storage will have to upgrade their disk drives if they want to continue enjoying all the latest updates for GTA 5.

"As the world of Grand Theft Auto Online continues to expand and evolve through ongoing updates, storage limitations of the PlayStation 3 12GB hardware will require owners to purchase additional storage to accommodate GTA 5 Title Updates after 1.16. All updates and content must remain installed on the system in order to maintain compatibility for all players within GTA Online," Rockstar explained on its website.

As such, if you do own a 12GB PS3, it's probably time to upgrade the storage capacity.
