Sony confirms that next weekend, between March 20 and March 22, it's opening up the multiplayer portion of the PlayStation Plus subscription to all PS4 owners in North America, meaning anyone will be able to go online and have fun with friends.

The PS4 platform delivers a lot of great features and allows for many games to be played on it, but if you want to use the multiplayer modes in those titles, a PlayStation Plus subscription is mandatory, as not only does it bring access to monthly free games, but it also regulates access to the online PlayStation Network.

As such, if you don't have a such a subscription, you're stuck with single-player experiences.

This next weekend, however, Sony is organizing a special free multiplayer event, according to the announcement on the PS blog.

As such, between March 20 and March 22, Sony is allowing any and all PS4 owners in North America unrestricted access to the multiplayer modes in their favorite titles.

You'll be able to enjoy games like the upcoming Battlefield Hardline, but also Grand Theft Auto 5, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Destiny, FIFA 15, or NBA 2K15 without having to pay for PS Plus.

Bear in mind that other features, such as access to the free Instant Game Collection won't be available during the free weekend.
