Capcom has confirmed that it's going to release the original six games in the Mega Man series onto the North American Nintendo 3DS eShop online store, in celebration of the franchise's 25th anniversary.

After celebrating 25 years since the release of the very first Street Fighter game this year, Capcom is getting ready to mark the 25th anniversary of its Mega Man franchise throughout 2013.

The opening celebration was already held yesterday, when the company released the free Street Fighter X Mega Man crossover title on the PC.

Now, the company has confirmed on its community website that the first six classic Mega Man titles, from 1 to 6, will be released onto the U.S. eShop for Nintendo 3DS owners.

Mega Man 1 arrives on the online store on December 27, and will be followed by Mega Man 2 on February 7. After that, the rest of the retro titles will come out throughout 2013.

The games are already available in the Japanese or European eShop, so 3DS owners can already start celebrating Mega Man's birthday.
