Despite the discouraging comments coming from series director Yoshinori Kitase, a team working inside publisher Square Enix is already creating a remake for the classic Japanese role-playing game Final Fantasy VII.

The information comes from an inside source quoted on NeoGAF, which points out that the company has never issued a clear denial, and that the game will probably be a success, given the huge number of fans that see it as the most interesting title in the series.

Kitase is on record as saying that to recreate Final Fantasy VII using modern mechanics would require a lot of resources and time, going so far as to assert it would represent the biggest project he has ever undertaken.

At the moment Square Enix is actively working on Final Fantasy XV, which is the first title in the franchise that will be delivered on the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox One from Microsoft.

More details about it will be offered during E3 2014, in June.

The most recent launch linked to the universe was Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, which was received with limited praise by the fan community and failed to generate solid sales, despite being the final installment in the Fabula Nova Crystallis continuity.
