After a huge amount of time, lots of speculation, and an array of rumors, Square Enix confirms that it's working on a remake for Final Fantasy VII, titled for the time being just Final Fantasy VII Remake. The new game has just entered development but will arrive as a timed PS4 exclusive when it eventually launches.

Square Enix's Final Fantasy saga has delighted hundreds of millions of Japanese role-playing game fans throughout the decades, and no entry is as fondly remembered as Final Fantasy VII.

For many years, fans have begged Square Enix to re-release the old PSone-era RPG as a modern title, but the Japanese company has declined many times, opting only to bring the original game to new devices with minimal improvements.

However, at Sony's E3 2015 press event just a few hours ago, Square Enix announced that a Final Fantasy VII Remake entered development.

The reveal was coupled with a brief cinematic video that teases the return of the game's classic heroes, such as Cloud.

It also confirms that, when the game eventually launches, it will be a timed exclusive for the PS4 console.

No other details were revealed, but seeing as how Square Enix is going to hold its own E3 2015 press event later today, it's possible that more will be revealed at that time.
