Fez, the indie 2D platformer, managed to sell over 1 million copies across all platforms, including Xbox Live, PSN and Mac/PC.

The news was made public this morning on indie developer Polytron Corporation's blog.

Game creator Phil Fish was featured in Indie Game: The Movie, where the protracted development process and the various hurdles were detailed, along with the woes of fellow Super Meat Boy developers.

A five-year development cycle followed the 2007 unveiling of the game, until it was finally released by Polytron Corporation on April 13, 2012 for Xbox Live Arcade. After announcing a sequel in July 2013, Phil Fish left the industry, as reported by GamaSutra.

Fez won the 2008 Independent Games Festival Excellence in Visual Art and was also nominated for the Design Innovation category. In December of 2012, Fez was declared Eurogamer's Game of the Year.

Fez's story revolves around Gomez, a strange creature living in a 2-dimensional world, that one day stumbles upon the Hexahedron, a magical artifact that gives him the ability to perceive a third dimension.

The artifact then mysteriously explodes and fractures the world around him, and Gomez has to use his new ability and collect the item's fragments before the world is torn apart.
