We haven't seen many indie 4X games yet, but some intrepid developers are aiming to change that with Falling Stars: War of Empires.

The turn-based strategy game has players vie for control of the galaxy through warfare and politics, and it's currently gathering funds in a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.

The developers tout the game as consisting of a mix of traditional strategy mechanics that enable fast-paced matches that can either be finished in one sitting, or crafted to last for days upon days.

Falling Stars: War of Empires is also undergoing a Greenlight campaign on Steam, so if you want the game to make it over there, you can go ahead and cast your vote.

Players will be able to conquer new planets and annex them to their empire or let them barter for their freedom, battle rebel forces, engage in diplomacy and espionage, and choose which tactical and strategic actions to pursue in order to keep opponents at bay.

The game focuses on player freedom and decision, with every little detail, from how to handle the inhabitants of a newly conquered systems to whether or not you're willing to work with rebel forces having an impact on the way your journey plays out.

Of course, as with any space-based strategy game, you'll also be able to build massive fleets and then take them into combat against your enemies.
