Half Life 2 horror mod Faceless was originally featured on Steam Greenlight as a free-to-play title, but now the team has made the decision to stick a price tag on their creation.

Faceless Creative Director Adam Sklar claims the suggestion came from Valve, to try to raise raise revenue from the game in order to improve it. Another important factor in the decision was the commercial success of other indie games, as noted in the Q&A with IndieStatik.

The Slenderman-inspired horror game will still maintain a core part free, the bonus content and multiplayer will only be available to paying players.

Sklar further stated that going commercial is the best possible way to ensure the continued development of the game and to realize the team’s goal of making the game not just a mod, but a total conversion.

Faceless will be sold for $10/€9, but will still feature a free-to-play single player version that comes with two maps, one game mode and the prologue, the original content of the free game.
