FIFA and EA Sports have announced that more than one million players are now engaged with the FIFA Interactive World Cup, the virtual football tournament that allows any player to take part via the PlayStation 3.

The virtual tournament allows gamers to compete against one another either online or offline and gives them a chance to qualify for a final competition which offers both money prizes and a chance to get an invitation to the Ballon d’Or ceremony, which will allow them to meet the biggest football stars in the world.

FIFA conducted a survey of the players who are engaged in the FIFA Interactive World Cup, with more than 10,000 of them providing answers, and has found that gamers actually believe that playing the EA Sports made FIFA 12 is just as effective as real world training at increasing their own skill on the ball.

A majority 58 percent of those surveyed believed that participating in a tournament can improve their own football skills.
