Video game developer Turtle Rock, publisher 2K Games, Sony Pictures Entertainment and the ESL are announcing that the best players of the team-based shooter Evolve will be able to face off against the hero of the new movie Chappie in a special tournament, with some solid prizes offered for those who can take him down.

Today at 3 PM Pacific Time and 6 PM Eastern Time, gamers can log into the official Twitch channel in order to watch the matches and see who picks up the 15,000 dollars (12,300 Euro) grand prize.

They can also get more info on the official site of the Chappie challenge.

The involved companies state, "Chappie is the first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. That's dangerous. With the ability to pick up any skill quickly, he's got his sights set on Evolve -- and he's ready to crush the competition."

The movie is set to launch on March 6 and will star Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel, Sigourney Weaver and Hugh Jackman.

It's unclear whether there are any plans to launch Chappie as a monster for the entire Evolve player base.

Turtle Rock has already announced an extensive plan of DLC deliveries for the title, designed to keep it relevant in the long term, which has provoked some controversy among players.
