The survey also informs that 51% of gaming households own two or more gaming devices

The latest survey from the Entertainment Software Association delivers an interesting piece of news regarding to the habits of the US-based gaming audience.

Most importantly, the survey reveals that 59 percent of all interviewed Americans play video games, with around 68 percent of them enjoying their interactive entertainment on consoles.

"Our industry has a remarkable upward trajectory. Computer and video games are a form of entertainment enjoyed by a diverse, worldwide consumer base that demonstrates immense energy and enthusiasm for games," Michael D. Gallagher, president and CEO of the ESA, stated.

On average, gaming households have at least one dedicated console, PC, tablet or smartphone, with 51 percent of homes owning an average of two gaming devices.

Furthermore, the Entertainment Software Association points out that wireless and smartphone usage has gone up to 37 percent, from just 22 percent in 2012.

The average gamer is 31 years old, and women of ages 18 and over represent a fraction of 36 percent of the total audience, compared to the traditional stereotype demographic of 18-year-old and younger boys, which represent only 17 percent of the total gaming population.

Moreover, that number of female gamers of ages 50 and over has increased by 32 percent as well, when compared to the numbers revealed back in 2012.
