Playing more with family than in the virtual realm

I am currently in Constanta, a city on the Romanian Black Sea coast, enjoying Christmas with my extended family, which involves some heavy cooking, plenty of alcohol, and more sweets than a body can safely process in a week.

It also means that I do not have either the time or the inclination to actually play something like Dragon Age or Company of Heroes 2 or Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon.

Given the mix of ages and backgrounds, even board games are not an option, but we have already gone through several rounds of our favorite card games and some rummy.

I love playing video games and I have learned over the years to even enjoy some multiplayer, like the FIFA habit that I’ve been having for about four years, but there’s nothing in the virtual space that can challenge the kind of interactions you can have with your loved ones in close proximity, while playing a simple and low stakes game.

When the company of my family gets a little tiring, I might try to connect a little with my virtual family and enjoy some time with Game of Thrones Ascent, which remains the best gaming experience based on the universe created by George R.R. Martin and is still free-to-play.
