The title was originally set to mix real-time strategy and MMO ideas

The team at Trion Worlds working on End of Nations announces that it is putting all development for the game on hold for the moment as it tries to evaluate its future potential and find a way to finish work on it and deliver it to players.

The game started life as a mix between a classic real-time strategy experience and a massively multiplayer online title under the leadership of Petroglyph.

It then got delayed, even though initial demos were promising, and then the core structure was changed and the experience was moved to the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena genre, before Trion Worlds assumed development duties.

The company has issued a statement to VideoGamer that reads, “Internal development on End of Nations was put on hold in late 2013 while we evaluated potential paths forward for the title. We’re currently focusing the company’s energy and creativity on Rift, Defiance, Trove, ArcheAge, and some new projects that we will be revealing soon.”

The MOBA genre is already pretty crowded and dominated by the battle between DOTA 2 from Valve and League of Legends from Riot Games, which will be joined later in the year by the new Heroes of the Storm from Blizzard.
