The development team at CCP announces that it will launch a new expansion for its MMO EVE Online on June 9 of this year, under the name Odyssey.

The main focus on the new content will be on exploration, with a new scanning system that all players will be able to use and a number of locations that can be discovered using the technology.

Jon Lander, an executive producer working at CCP, tells Polygon that, “When you think about all of the great science fiction it’s all about ‘What is it?’ What’s going on? I don’t know what’s going on,’ and I love that feeling of discovery.”

EVE Online introduced a mysterious universe when it first launched, but players have spent so much time in the game that a new system and new content are required to reintroduce it.

Odyssey will also introduce balance changes and a number of new ships, alongside interface improvements.
