EVE Online, the space-based MMO famous for its treachery and human interaction, announces that it now has more than half a million subscribers, all of them playing on the same server in a completely shared universe.

Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, the chief executive officer of developer CCP, states, “For me, this is a true testament that EVE can live on forever, as long as we do right by her. We have not come to this point alone; millions of players have helped push us to this milestone.”

The executive believes that the MMO might actually last longer than those who are currently playing it.

During December 2012, CCP launched the Retribution expansion for EVE Online, which modified some game features and added more ships for gamers to play around with.

The game is also now available in China.

The subscriber milestone will be celebrated at the EVE Fanfest with some special announcements.
