Video game publisher Electronic Arts is reporting that its own Origin digital distribution service is at the moment affected by wider problems with the network infrastructure of the company and that many gamers are unable to sign in.

This means that they are also unable to launch their bought PC games, which is affecting a number of titles, with the most high-profile fans currently voicing their frustration being those of the Battlefield 4 first person shooter.

The official Twitter account of the service claims that the company is working hard to solve the issue and that an update will be offered when Origin is back online and working well.

The downtime is happening just as Steam, the biggest digital distribution service on the PC, has launches its much awaited Summer Sale.

The Valve product is also having some issues at the moment but they are minor and mostly caused by the huge number of players who are logging in so that they can check out the offered price cuts.

Electronic Arts has said that it has plans to update Origin in the near future and deliver more functionality for users, although the company has failed to specify exactly what it is aiming to improve.

Update: EA says that all problems have been solved and that gamers should be able to sign in, although there are still some scattered reports of issues.
