Electronic Arts has confirmed that it's going to release updates for the different older games it has that use GameSpy technology for multiplayer, so that the online modes can still work after the closure of the service.

GameSpy offered its technical know-how and online infrastructure to many game developers in the 2000s, and all sorts of major publishers used it in big games, from Electronic Arts, to Ubisoft, Capcom, and many more.

Unfortunately, the service will shut down effective on May 31, meaning all those older games that used GameSpy will no longer be playable online.

Electronic Arts has confirmed on Twitter that it is, in fact, working on patches for the many different games it has that use GameSpy currently.

Among the big titles from the publisher that feature such functionality are Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, or Battlefield Bad Company 2, three cult classic first-person shooters that are still played today despite much newer sequels.

Unfortunately, EA did not offer a time frame for when the updates will be released, so it's unclear if they'll appear before May 31 or if they'll debut after that, leaving the game's offline for a period of time. Expect to hear more from the publisher soon.
