Patrick Bach, an executive producer working at DICE, says that his team is rebooting Mirror’s Edge rather than simply delivering a sequel in order to expand the core mechanics of the game and make sure that more people get to experience it.

He tells IGN that, “We had to dwell on what it should be and what it could be, as well as find the right focus for the franchise, bringing it back and not just rushing it out there. I think the franchise deserves a proper launch.”

The new game will use the Frostbite 3 engine and is officially described as an open world action adventure.

DICE and publisher Electronic Arts plan to launch it in 2014 on the PC, the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox One from Microsoft.
