Based on the series' historical performance and on Battlefield 4 sales, the company thinks it can be done

Electronic Arts is apparently pretty confident that the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront has the potential to become a blockbuster, projecting sales of around 9 to 10 million units during fiscal year 2016.

Since the game's release date is pegged to be November 17 and FY 2016 runs until March 31, this means that the company only has four and a half months to reach its forecast.

The company's projections are based on the performance of Battlefield 4 and on the series' historical sales, which are pretty strong, and it's a milestone that could definitely be reached, especially since the target refers to units shipped to retailers, rather than actual end-user sales.

While the Star Wars franchise is one of the most recognizable and popular, not to mention influential, intellectual properties of the late 20th century, EA emphasized in a post-earnings conference call that it's not just a license to print money, as VG247 reports.

EA commented on the fact that Star Wars Battlefront was meant to deliver a very high quality experience, this being the reason it would only be available on the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms.

While this will likely translate into a more limited sales potential than a cross-generation title could have, developer DICE is focused on offering a compelling experience, which can only be done on newer hardware.
