Wizard of the Coast has announced that the new rules system for Dungeons & Dragons is finally complete and will be released during the summer of 2014.

The revised rule system for Wizards’ popular role-playing franchise has seen nearly two years of open public playtest, involving more than 175K participants.

The company promises its fans rich and immersive story-driven experiences across multiple gaming platforms and a confrontation with the most fearsome monster of all time.

“Just like a perfectly balanced party, Wizards has worked cohesively with fans, designers and partners to create the next generation of D&D. We whole-heartedly thank all of the play test participants, whose feedback has proven instrumental in shaping the future of Dungeons & Dragons,” said Nathan Stewart, Brand Director for Dungeons & Dragons.

The D&D universe has seen its fair share of video game adaptations, from old pixelated classics, such as Eye of the Beholder, to the Dungeons & Dragons Online modern MMORPG, and chances are some neat surprises are in store.

Wizards stated that more information regarding the specific offerings of the new ruleset will be made available starting early 2014.
