Video game developer Double Fine has officially stated that The Cave, a project which is registered a trademark for, is not the old school 2D video game project that it has funded via the Kickstarter crowd funding system.

A statement from the company says “While we can’t comment on unannounced projects, we can say that Double Fine’s Kickstarter-funded adventure game has not been started, designed, or even imagined yet. No trademarks have been filed on its behalf.”

Double Fine has managed to rise more than 2.3 million dollars (1.73 million Euro) from more than 67,000 backers so far and there are 12 days during which more people can join the project and become backers.

The new game from Double Fine will be worked upon by both Tim Schafer and Ron Gilbert, two of the developers who fans associate with the golden age of adventure gaming.

At the moment, the Kickstarter project does not have a launch date and it is not clear what platforms it will arrive on.
