Dota 2 has surpassed the 1 million concurrent players milestone, thanks in part to the Year Beast Brawl event that took place over the weekend.

Dota 2 is Valve's most successful project nowadays, as tens of millions of people embark on the multiplayer experience every month through the Steam service.

This month has been particularly big for the online title, as the beginning of February saw the Dota 2 Asian Championships take place in Shanghai, while last week saw the New Bloom Festival 2015 in-game event kick off.

Besides having a new hero, gameplay changes, and other such things inside the game, players were also invited to partake in the Year Beast Brawl event, which was open during 10-minute windows throughout the day.

All these factors have resulted in a surge in popularity, as the SteamDB shows that Dota 2 has finally surpassed the 1 million concurrent users milestone.

More specifically, during the weekend, there were 1,074,266 players logged into Dota 2, probably waiting for the Year Beast Brawl window to open.

Unfortunately, this surge left a mark on the game's already troubled servers, as plenty of outages were reported by players over the weekend.

Expect the popularity to continue to grow until March 2, when the Year Beast Brawl event and the New Bloom Festival come to an end.
