John Carmack, the leader of id Software and the creator of hit titles like Doom 3D, believes that, while Nvidia and AMD graphics cards are evenly matched in terms of power, Nvidia wins because of its better drivers.

For many years, the market of graphics cards has seen two major contenders: Nvidia and AMD, with Nvidia offering higher-priced hardware that was more powerful, while AMD focused on lower-budget gamers and offered different bundles.

As of right now, both Nvidia and AMD cards are evenly matched, at least according to famed programmer and designer John Carmack, who talked on Twitter about the old rivalry.

Nvidia, however, is superior, as Carmack notes that drivers and software for Nvidia cards have consistently beaten AMD's offers.

"On a hardware level, AMD is often as good as or better than Nvidia, but Nvidia drivers are consistently superior," he wrote on Twitter.

AMD is expected to take advantage of the fact that its hardware powers both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One next-gen consoles and will improve the performance of its regular graphics cards.
