Video game developer Landfair believes that the CryEngine created by Crytek is a better solution for video game development than the rival Unreal Engine 3 from Epic Games.

NeoGAF quotes the chief executive and creative director as saying that, “It just still feels ‘cartoonish’, and CryEngine has a more photo-realistic feel. For games like that, Unreal Engine fits perfectly, but not for the type of games we’re developing.”

The developer also believes that solid stories and gameplay are more important than simple high quality graphics and the CryEngine is more suited to deliver them.

At the moment Epic Games is working on a new version of Unreal Engine that’s set to take advantage of the extra computing power of the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.

Crytek has not officially announced that it is working on a next gen focused version of its own tech.
