Activision makes the reveal through the power of arithmetics

Activision has revealed that its hit first-person shooter Destiny managed to hit 20 million players worldwide.

The information comes from the company's Q1 2015 financial report, where Activision lists the combined user bases of Bungie's Destiny and Blizzard Entertainment's Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft to amount to 50 million players.

Since Blizzard already announced that its popular collectible digital card game has 30 million registered users, this means that Destiny is home to 20 million players.

Activision mentioned back in February that Destiny had managed to attract 16 million users since its launch in September 2014, which translates into Bungie's FPS / MMO hybrid acquiring around 4 million players over the course of the last three months.

Some people only see this game as a massive scam where you have to endlessly farm for weapons while going in circles, with nothing to do but enjoy the nice scenery when all is said and done, and with legitimate claims of planned obsolescence having been made, while others see it as a thrilling and engaging experience, logging in an average of three hours of game time daily.

Many people have also already sold their copy of Destiny, and Activision counts the total number of people who have ever stepped into Destiny in this tally (registered users), and not actual game sales or currently active users. In any case, it's a pretty big number.
