Dean Hall, the man who created the DayZ mod for ArmA 2, says that his game aims to deliver an authentic experience, even if not all the gameplay mechanics are realistic.

By making the entire experience feel familiar, Hall can encourage players to take stock of their resources and abilities and then devise a solution for the situation they are in.

PC Gamer reports that, during a Game Developer Conference talk, the developer told the audience that “The idea with DayZ was to put the players in a situation. And this is something I delved a lot into when I was working with the army.”

At the moment, a standalone version of DayZ is being developed, which will have a review in June and might then see the launch of an alpha version via Steam.
