The PC version of Dark Souls will apparently live through the upcoming Games For Windows Live shutdown, according to publisher Bandai Namco.

"BANDAI NAMCO Games is currently seeking avenues to continue support and ensure the functionality of Dark Souls on other services. We will have more news and updates to share on this in the coming months," the publisher reveals on its Tumblr page, also informing that Dark Souls will remain fully functional on GFWL up to the service's termination.

After the news that Games For Windows Live will be discontinued this July transpired through an Age of Empires Online support page, many developers have initiated the move from GFWL to other services, in an effort to preserve their games' online features.

The Games For Windows Live closure has a similar impact to GameSpy's shutting down at the end of May, with different clients responding to the issue in different ways, by either patching specific older titles and finding a transition to alternative online services or simply urging players to make the most out of what little time they still have with some older titles.

Dark Souls players will surely be pleased to know that, in addition to dying in the game's unforgiving PvE encounters, they still have a bright future of dying in PvP confrontations ahead of them.
