Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director who worked on the first Dark Souls title, says that he wants the series to continue as long as fans are asking for more content, while also making sure that the developers are not simply creating new games in order to satisfy their own interests.

Speaking to Edge, he says, “I want new expressions. It’s true that I’m sad about not being involved in the development of Dark Souls 2, because I’ve worked on Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls’ development for the past five years.”

Miyazaki is looking forward to seeing what Dark Souls 2 can offer even though he knows that the core experience will be very similar to that of the first title in the series.

The new game is expected to arrive late this year or in early 2014, with the developer ready to tackle another unannounced project.
